Surface Tank Construction & Rehab

Construction and rehabilitation of surface storage tanks for oil and gas operations.

Overview

What This Service Covers

Storage tanks are long-lived assets, but they don't last indefinitely without attention — foundations settle, coatings degrade, and shells corrode over years of service. We handle both ends of that lifecycle: constructing new surface storage tanks from foundation to roof, and rehabilitating existing tanks that need structural repair, re-coating, or remediation to extend their working life.

New tank construction follows a defined sequence — foundation preparation, shell plate erection course by course, roof construction, and finally the corrosion protection coating system that will determine much of the tank's long-term durability. Each stage depends on the one before it being done correctly, which is why we treat foundation work and shell erection with the same level of quality control as any other structural work, not just a formality on the way to the coating stage.

Rehabilitation work is typically driven by inspection findings — corrosion, coating failure, or structural concerns identified during a tank's periodic inspection. We carry out the structural repair work required, followed by surface preparation and re-coating to bring the tank back to a condition suitable for continued service, addressing what the inspection has actually found rather than a generic scope of work.

Our Process

How We Deliver This Service

Foundation Preparation

The tank foundation is prepared and constructed to support the tank shell and its contents, including any required concrete ringwall or base work.

Shell Erection

Tank shell plates are erected course by course, welded to form the tank's structural shell.

Roof Construction

The tank roof is constructed and installed according to the tank's design — fixed or floating, depending on the service.

Corrosion Protection Coating

Surface preparation and application of the specified coating system protect the tank shell, internally and externally, for long-term service.

Rehabilitation (existing tanks)

For rehabilitation projects, inspection findings guide structural repair work, followed by surface preparation and re-coating to restore the tank to service condition.

Scope of Work

What's Involved

New storage tank construction
Tank shell and roof fabrication and erection
Foundation preparation and concrete works
Tank rehabilitation and structural repair

Standards & Quality

Tank construction and rehabilitation work follows the structural and coating standards applicable to surface storage tanks in oil and gas service, informed by inspection findings where rehabilitation work is being carried out.
